£100,000 raised by Islamic Relief at Pakistan Floods Charity Fundraiser in Bradford

A sum in the region of £100,000 was raised by Islamic Relief at a charity dinner and fundraiser held for victims of the Pakistan floods, in Bradford.

The event, at the Hilton hotel was attended by around 500 people who gathered at the venue to help those caught in the midst of some of the worst flooding the South Asian nation has ever seen. From businesses, big and small to schools and charities, pledges were made of sums from as little as £100 to £10,000. In the charity auction, just over £5,300 was raised through the auctioning of various goods including a Boxing glove signed by boxer Amir Khan, a Liverpool FC shirt signed by every single member of the team and a VIP executive box for 10 people to watch a One Day International cricket match between England and Pakistan.

After the event, Islamic Relief's Jamil Aziz, one of the event co-ordinators said:
"We organised this fundraiser in one week and we're delighted with the response from the Bradford public. The sell-out event has been highly successful as we hit the £100,000 mark."
"We would like to thank everyone for their generous donations and the people of Bradford for this wonderful gesture which sends out a message that we are here to help those caught up in the Pakistan floods in their time of need."
